INTERMEDIATE LEVEL PHYSICS

Physics at intermediate level is a very popular two-year course among students offered by the Physics Department at the Junior College. Primarily, such course prepares the student for the MATSEC Intermediate Level Physics Examination.

During the first year of the course the student is offered two weekly sessions, an hour each, delivered in the form of a lecture in order to cover part of the MATSEC Physics Intermediate Syllabus. The first year of study covers two main branches in Physics, mainly Mechanics and Waves.

Similarly, during the second year of the course the student is offered two weekly sessions, an hour each, delivered in the form of a lecture in order to cover the remaining part of the MATSEC Physics Intermediate Syllabus. The second year of study covers two other main branches in Physics, mainly Heat and Electricity.

 

ADVANCED LEVEL PHYSICS

Physics at advanced level is another popular two-year course among students offered by the Physics Department at the Junior College. Primarily, such course prepares the student for the MATSEC Advanced Level Physics Examination. It also gives the student the opportunity to develop the necessary skills and attitude for entering a university course at degree level. For better achievement, a good grade (Grade 3 or higher) in SEC Physics, Mathematics and English Language are recommended pre-requisites.

During the first year of the course the student is invited to attend eight weekly sessions of which four are delivered in the form of a lecture, two hours tutorial and the remaining two hours spent in the laboratory for practical experiments. in order to cover part of the MATSEC Physics Advanced Syllabus. The first year of study covers two main branches in Physics, mainly Mechanics and Waves.

Similarly, during the second year of the course the student is invited to attend eight weekly sessions of which four are delivered in the form of a lecture, two hours seminars and the remaining two hours spent in the laboratory for practical experiments. in order to cover the remaining part of the MATSEC Physics Advanced Syllabus. The second year of study covers two other main branches in Physics, mainly Heat and Electricity.

MCAST – BTEC EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN APPLIED SCIENCE

(Laboratory and Industrial Science)

The MCAST – BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science (Laboratory and Industrial Science, course code 11/02/02A) is a Level 4 course awarded by MCAST. To enrol for this course a student must have obtained 4 SEC O-level passes from English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  The duration of this course is that of one year full-time and two years part-time on apprenticeship.

This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive range of skills and knowledge essential for a career in laboratory work. Candidates are trained in scientific principles, laboratory organisation and scientific applications as required by industry and the pharmaceutical sector.
